Nepenthes x Kazuhiro Ota - Tenugui Bandana - Starry Sky
$29.00
An original tenugui made with Kazuhiro Ota, the graphic designer and art director also known for his writing on Japan's drinking establishments.
The tenugui has a long history in Japanese gift-giving and remains genuinely useful day to day. Ota brought American graphics of the 1940s and 1950s to that traditional object, and the result is unusual and slightly off-key in a way that reads as elegant rather than loud.
The dyeing combines two traditional techniques, direct printing and resist dyeing, which is a slow way to make a piece of cloth. It sits easily in a modern life while carrying the weight of the craft behind it.
