Originally introduced by the U.S. Army in 1927, the A-1 Jacket was created for early military aviators, combining warmth and functionality with a streamlined silhouette suited to open-air cockpits. Distinguished by its button-front closure, flap pockets, ribbed knit collar, cuffs and hem, the A-1 established the design language that would influence every American flight jacket that followed, including the legendary A-2.
Having discovered the lesser-known A-1 later in life, Engineered Garments founder Daiki Suzuki was drawn to its understated simplicity and lasting influence on both military apparel and classic menswear. His interpretation stays faithful to the original while refining the proportions with a relaxed, layered fit characteristic of Engineered Garments.
